What is Pneumatic Blowdown Valve?

The pneumatic blowdown valve is a valve used to drain the sludge and sludge accumulated from the bottom of a steam boiler. It is generally used in conjunction with a pneumatic (air powered) actuator used to open and close the valve. The valve can be opened and closed manually using a hand crank or lever, or automated using a pneumatic control system.

The purpose of the pneumatic blowdown valve is to periodically remove sludge and sludge from the bottom of the boiler to increase the efficiency and safety of the boiler. If scale and sludge are allowed to accumulate, they can reduce the heat transfer efficiency of the boiler and increase the risk of corrosion and damage to the boiler. By opening the pneumatic blowdown valve regularly, sludge and sludge can be removed, helping to maintain the efficiency and safety of the boiler.

It should be noted that the bottom blowdown valve should only be opened when the boiler is not in use and the water level in the boiler is low. Opening the valve while the boiler is operating may cause damage to the boiler and pose a safety hazard.

Normally Closed Position Working Principle

It is the position where the valve is initially closed . Fluid passage is not allowed. With the spring force applied continuously on the moving piston, it closes the orifice hole with a plug and prevents the flow of fluid. Compressed air is supplied from the air supply inlet to open the valve. When the air reaches a certain pressure inside the actuator, the diaphragm overcomes the spring force and moves the piston forward and opens the orifice hole, thus allowing fluid passage.
